Cliches such as a picture is worth a thousand words come to mind when art is mentioned. Art is more than a thousand words. Art is literature. Art is music. Art is dancing. Art is photography. Art is drawings. Art is paintings. Art is expression. Art is as close to magic as it is to reality. Art is life. Art is bright, happy, and passionate. Art is dark, evil and dangerous. Art repesents us. Art is who we are. Art is what we are.

Art as literature appears in two forms. One of the forms it appeas in is poetry. It can be complex and deep like Shakespear. It can also be light and airy like a lymric. The other form it takes is prose. Prose is portrayed as a magical tale of talking mice, a dreadful tale of pillaging pirates and much more. Novel, essay, or short story -- literature is art. It pulls and prods at every nook of the intellect and imagination. It expresses and paints vivd pictures in the mind.

Music also expresses and paints vivid pictures in the mind. The word music tiself seems to dance before ears. Though music expresses, it is a very different version of art in comparison to literature. It is instrument. It is voice. Sometimes it is both instrument and voice, and sometimes it is only instrument or only voice. It melds one mental image into another. Music expresses emotions that sometiems cannont be conveyed in words. Tribal rythms will take the mind to rural places with grassy huts and campfires. These rythms can convey fierce feelings, or feelings of happiness and unity. Meloncholly songs will conjure u images of desolation and bring feelings of sadness or even healing with it. What the artist is feeling is expressed through his choice of musical notes and lyrics.

Dancing is alos art. Emotions are portrayed through movement of the body. Dancing can be healing as well as creative. the artist finds acenter to put all his passion into. He finds a way to express his innermost feelings through the way he his body moves. The tone, mood, and meaning all all expressed through the movement of his body.

Beyond the versions of art thus far discussed what is what most people would classify as art. This is the realm of fine art. This type of art can be broken into four styles. These styles are impressionistic,surreal, realistic, and abstract. Each of these styles are dependent upon the artist and what he is trying to express through his rendition of reality. From the way he lays out the his compostion to the colors he uses the emotion he is trying to convey appears.

If he is feeling dark and miserable he may use dark colors to set the tone. If he wantes to express his joy he will express this with bright, saturated colors. He will also set the mood of of the picture by the setting he chooses. A dark graveyars will have a quite different effect from that of a sunny garden full of flowers in bright colors.

Artists convey through their work. they express thier feelings and thoughts through the subject matter. Whether that subject be literature, music, drawings, paintings, photographs, or dancing the artist is trying to tell the world something. Art is trying to tell the world something. Art is the definition of expression, and expression is the definition of art. One cannot exist without the other. Art is a necessity to the intracacy of life.
